| I sometimes think about posting something on Xanga, but I'm nearly always somewhere else, nowhere near a computer, doing something that would not allow me to type anyways...
I miss Xanga really. Facebook is fun and a better way to stat in contact for sure, but it Xanga is the deep conversation to Facebook's smalltalk.
People don't often write anything very meaningful, indeed rarely write anything at all over a sentence or two long.
What's happened to our creative minds? Are they being crowded out by other things in life? Or are they taken up by trivial things and set aside for the easy option?
Anyways, I remember one of the things that I wanted to write on here. It's not all that interesting to anyone else, but it is something I want to log for my own memory. That's one of the problems with not coming on here so much any more. All those things that occur to us, our state of mind that is frozen on the page when we write in here. That is what makes this so great to me. You can see a progression in your thinking over time. You can see what you were doing and what you felt about it. Sometimes I look back at early posts I made and I can scarcely believe I made them, it just seems so different a life.
I was thinking about how I miss the sounds and atmosphere of England. I heard a dove's call on something, maybe TV, I don't know, but it triggered memories of going on holiday and staying in farmhouses and how when you wake up, you wake up to that glorious English countryside sound. Birdsong from all around, and most specifically, the cooing of doves, because they are pretty vocal. And then to walk out of the door and be hit by the freshness of the air. Often times, I won't deny, it is chilly in England, even when the sun is out, but it is fresh and clean feeling. And you look out over the view and can see for miles over rolling hills of different hues of green and brown.
I do miss that. Not to say that there isn't atmosphere here too. But it is not the same because I am somewhere else with it's own atmosphere. The sounds are different, the layout is different and the air is different. Maybe being in the middle of summer is pushing that to the fore, but it just triggered the thought the other day.
I think that even though I've never felt like anywhere in particular is 'home', there will always be a part of me that will feel back at home in the English countryside.
| Not a great deal to update on really. Was supposed to be at work this morning but when we got there they told us the truck is coming on Thursday instead, not sure why they couldn't have called before to let us know but eh. So here are a few photos from the other day. Still trying to get a handle on this flash business. I'm still not really happy yet but it's all good experience and helping me to understand it better so I shall not complain too much. Anyways, without further ado...
Scum, or for short, Scum.
| Thought a little update is in order. Don’t want to get too slack again in my posting. I have a few odd pictures from going back all the way into February but to those in a minute.
I have all my equipment in now for photography. What I was getting, in case anyone was wondering, was lights, stands, umbrellas and a system to transmit to my camera without leads. This should be enough of a set-up to start taking decent portrait photos, if that is, I have the ability to do such. I’m a bit nervous having got them now that I might not be able to make good pics.
But hopefully I can try them out today if I don’t run into any issues. I’m a tad worried I might need some electrical tape but we’ll find out I guess. I shall start simple and work my way up. It’s a bit of a daunting world I’m stepping into now as I really don’t know that much beyond the general camera stuff.
I’ve never been really into technical sides of things. When I was doing the music thing I was never one of those guys who could sit there and discuss which mic they prefer or what pick-ups are best on your guitar. Back then though I was in a band so I could let the others sort out tech things.
I suppose if I want to find some confidence, I can take it from the fact that I did manage to set myself up with the musical programs and write music on the computer, even sort out problems I ran into.
And I’ve worked out a lot on photoshop too. I feel like I can do most of the basics that you need to, as well as being able to quickly do a few funky techniques.
I tried to read how to use the flashes but that proved really really over my head. So in slight desperation I went on youtube and thankfully there are people on there who make video tutorials and such, pretty much for anything in life. So after watching a few of the videos I feel like I stand a fighting chance of working stuff out… we shall see…

So these are from Josh's birthday. I barely got any decent ones so I never posted them, but here's something... at least...

These are the tulips that Angie got for Christmas from the parentals, I think, doing exactly what they are supposed to.

You should recognize these miscreants...

And finally, you should always remember that at all times, wherever you may be....
Sibes is watching you.
EDIT EDIT EDIT Well, I gave it a shot this afternoon, just me, the camera stuff and the spare room and it went reasonably. I was happy about the fact that I managed to set up all the equipment without blowing anything up or breaking it and it worked like it was supposed to. The not so good thing was that the pictures didn't really come out quite how I'd hoped. This is the best of the bunch and ironically it was the first one I took. Ah well, more experimentation soon. Sorry about the glowering by the way, I was concentrating too hard on things not blowing up... remember?

| Well, due to the nice response to the flower post, I'm going to post again nice and soon. Infact, only two days after the event! I've been posting a bit more recently. I'm hoping that others may come back a bit more too and get some posting in. It's always best when there is something new to read when you sign in... Anyways, to the matter in hand, Phil's birthday celebration... I'll try and keep this reasonably chronological, but no guarantees - First off, we played that classic party game, 'Cut the Hair Off the Phil'. Angie won. (well ok, it was mainly a first chance for me to use my new timer...)
- Well, not long after everyone got there, it was voted that seeing as everyone was there, we may as well go to Outback like we planned a few weeks back instead of the pizza thing.
I had a picture of Phil with his meal and Mandy with hers but rather than do two seperate pics, I merged them horribly into one. *shrug* - And here are the American parents...
- Josh...
- And just to prove I do actually go to these events, Mandy took this one... (just pointing out my masterful noughts and crosses move)
- So anyways, then it was time to get back and to our next game, 'Kiss the Dog'. Abbey won.
Bandit did not want to play...
- The cats actually made their presence felt so I snapped a couple of shots whilst I had the chance...
- Not a cat and not event but the only shot I have of someone at the house... so uh, here is the lovely Angie
- Finally to the present opening... spot the difference...
So there you have it. ---EDIT--- (by popular demand...)

| Well, I kept thinking to myself recently that Spring is here once more and it is a great time to get outside and take pictures of things looking all bright and cheerful. Of course, then I had somewhat of a lack of muse so I had a few half-hearted attempts and pretty much let it slide me by. I guess we are midway through Spring now though, so I'm probably still justified in this... I got a book for Christmas that amazingly just arrived this week and I read the first chapter yesterday morning. It so inspired me that I hoisted the camera on my shoulder as we went out for our morning cycle with the dogs. 2 hours later we returned and I had a memory card full of pics. Huzzah! Among other things, I really wanted to focus on little wild flowers that, to be honest, we tend to look over I think most of the time. Sure, you notice something pleasant swaying in the field but you don't really stop to look, because you are too busy doing something else, or it just seems too insignificant. Well, I felt like there were so many popping up all over the place that I'd try and get some pics. Sadly, not having a macro lens means that these are not really what I wish they were, but it's the best and closest I could get under the circumstances. I have a bunch of other pics to put up soon too, but I wanted to do these first and by themselves, so there.
Now these aren't tecnically flowers, but they are close enough , they each contribute to the colour or subtlety thereof to qualify
